Q1) How long does it take to get to the Snow Carnival venue from Tokamachi Station

カーニバルまでの道徒歩で約30分かかります。
Please take your time and walk carefully as the path may by snowy and slippery.
Due to traffic restrictions in place during the festival,visitors will be unable to access the stage by car.

Q2) When does construction of the giant Snow Carnival snow stage begin?
Can we view it during this period?

<Carnival Venue>
Construction of the Snow Carnival stage usually begins around 2 weeks before the Snow Festival, depending on the amount of snowfall.
※ Because of heavy machinery and large amounts of snow, entrance is prohibited.
We appreciate your understanding.

<Snow Sculptures>
Many organizations begin building their snow sculptures about a week before the festival.
It is possible to visit these sites.
Work is mostly done in the evevning, following the end of the work day until about 9pm.

Q3) How many people visit the festival each year?

Q4) What should I wear?

服装  服装

Most of the festival takes place outside so please wear warm clothes.
We recommend taking extra measures to keep you feet warm as the snowy ground can be very cold.
スキーウェアなど暖かく身軽な服装がおすすめです。
※ Please note that umbrella use is prohibited at the Snow Carnival venue.
We recommend wearing a waterproof hooded raincoat should it rain or snow.

Q5) What kind of footwear should I bring?

The Snow Festival Hiroba (squares where you can find sculptures, events, stalls and performances) are almost all outside on snow.
We recommended wearing tall waterproof boots.
Please be mindful that slippery soles can make walking dangerous.

Q6) Are there hotels or ryokan near the Snow Carnival venue?

There are hotels and ryokan near the Snow Carnival venue, however they fill up quickly, often before the actual festival. We recommend making reservations as early as possible.

Q7) Where is the Tokamachi Snow Festival held?

The Tokamachi Snow Festival takes place at "Hiroba", squares where you can find snow sculptures, events, performances and food/drink stalls, which are located throughout town. There are also snow sculptures located in other locations, as well as the huge Snow Carnival Snow Stage.

Q8) Is there car parking available?

Temporary car parking will be available for the duration of the festival.

When you arrive, please follow the instructions of traffic signs and event staff.
Parking lots may fill up quickly so we recommend you arrive early.

Q9) Where can I find a Snow Festival maps and pamphlets?

Maps and pamphlets can be found at the Tokamachi Tourist Information Center which is located inside the west exit of Tokamachi Station on the second floor.
They will also be available at a number of other festival information points across town.
Pamphlets are distributed by post to all Tokamachi City residents.
Those who wish to receive one can also contact the Tokamachi Snow Festival Executive Committee .

Q10) Can I return or cancel a Snow Festival Passport for a refund?


We are unable to offer a refund on snow festival passports. Refunds may be given in the case the event is cancelled.

Q11) Is one passport enough for the whole family?
Or does each person need to purchase their own passport?

パスポート
One passport is required per person.
However, children aged 12 and accompanied by passport holders will be admitted into the Festival Passport Holder Zone at the Snow Carnival venue.
The Snow Festival Passport comes with a number of bonuses so we recommend buying one! Ask more for information.

Q12) How far from the Snow Carnival Stage is each spectator zone?


The seating at the Snow Carnival venue is divided into three zones, "Special Invitation Zone," "Festival Passport Holder Zone," and the "General Zone."
The distance from each zone to the front stage is as follows:
・「Special Invitation Zone」 … about 7m
・「Festival Passport Holders Zone」 … about 20 m
・「General Zone」 … about 40 m

(There may be changes to the position of each zone depending on the snow conditions)

Q13) Which year was the Snow Carnival snow stage certified by the Guinness Book of World Records?

The stage at the 32nd (1981) Snow Festival was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Based on France's Sacre Coeur, the stage measured 25 m (height) x 50 m (width) x 15 m (depth) and was certified as the biggest structure made entirely out of snow in the world at the time.
